Charles Patrick Duck Jr., 70, of Waterville, OH, son of Theresa and the late Charles P. Duck Sr., passed away peacefully in his home Sunday surrounded by family. Charlie was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 13, 1946. He attended St. Agnes Elementary, Central Catholic High School ’64 and graduated with a Business Degree in ’68 from the University of Toledo. Soon after graduation, he worked for the city of Toledo in their Model Cities Program. He then worked for OI as an Auditor in 1974. He became project administrator for the Owens Illinois World Headquarters Building in downtown Toledo. He stayed with OI until he and fellow partners started Monarch Analytical Labs in the late 80s. He ran this very successful company until February 10, 2005 when it was sold and he officially retired. After moving to Waterville in 1973, he was drafted to become Treasurer. This began his long career of service to the citizens of Waterville. He was elected to council from 1980-87. He ran for Mayor in 1988, winning two consecutive terms, retiring from politics in 1996. Throughout all of this he was on the Lucas County Community Improvement Corporation (LCIC) and served as president. Some of his proudest achievements were doubling the size of the Waterville’s Police Department, his vigorous support of the Farnsworth Industrial Park and vastly improving Waterville’s water supply system. Charlie enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending quality time in his garage with whoever happened to stop by while watching the Cleveland Indians. He always had kind words and support for anyone he met. He loved nothing more than helping people whether they needed a tool, help with their careers or asked him for a favor. He truly loved helping others. His proudest achievements by far were his five children and 16 grandchildren. He married Nancy (Kaifas) February 14, 2004. She survives along with his mother, Theresa Duck, children, Charlie (Elissa) Duck, Andrea (Jay) Larranaga, Maureen (Tom) Koltz, Priscilla (Aaron) Bersee, Maggie (Dave) Robertshaw, Darcy Wynes and Corey Bubon, grandchildren, Charlie IV, Taylor, James, Michaela, Meredith, Madeleine, Maebelle, Joel, Amos, Edison, Carter, Gwendolyn Rose, Joe, Matt and Steven, siblings, Patricia Wilcox, Tom (Shelly) Duck, Judy (Frank) Knakiewicz, and Theresa LaCourse, and his lifelong childhood friend, Ron Teague. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles P. Duck, grandson, Eli Bersee and brother, Michael Duck. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 3-8 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Rd. Waterville, OH.
