Seventh grader lists what she & her fellow students would lose should school levy fail

My name is Lauren Carney and I am a 7th grade student at Bowling Green Middle School. I am involved in Cross Country, basketball, track, drama club, builders club, and orchestra. I love everything that I am a part of. I really enjoy cross country for many reasons.

One of my favorite parts is running in races. I love the team comradery and seeing everyone rally around each other until the  last finisher crosses the line. Basketball is one of my favorite times of the year. Being in basketball is fun from the practices, to the games, and even conditioning. Track is so fun because there are so many people involved in it.  Everyone is always supportive, no matter what events you participate in.

There is nothing more I love than helping my community in builders club. When I joined K-Kids in 5th grade, it was so fun! Whenever we finish a project or a collection, I can’t wait to see what we do next to help. Orchestra is my favorite class of the day.

When Mr. Hudson came in 4th grade, I knew I wanted to play viola. Even 3 years later, my love for orchestra continues to grow. I know classes would not get cut, but without concerts, orchestra would not be as fun because you have nothing big to work towards. I’m really going to miss Mr. Hudson as a teacher because he has changed my life so much! Thank you Mr. Hudson, for everything you’ve done for our schools, our class, and me!

Drama club is amazing! If you would’ve asked me in 6th grade if I thought I would ever be an actress, I would have laughed in your face. I auditioned for our 2023-2024 performance of “Rogues gallery” and it changed my life. I found that acting and being on stage is one of my true passions. This year, I did something super brave in our production of “Willa Wonkie and the College Tour (Chocolate not Included)”. I was Grandpa Joe. I never in my entire life thought I would be brave enough to do it, but when I learned more about the role, I knew I had to have it. That was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. My experience with drama club and acting could not have been possible without this amazing opportunity that Bowling Green Middle School provided.

As you can see, sports, clubs, and music are a big part of my life, and I know a lot of other students who feel the same way. Just think about it; if you had one thing that you absolutely loved and enjoyed being a part of, just taken away: But for me, it would be five things taken away. Then multiply that by all of the students in our school district.  That’s A LOT. I am very aware that I am only a 7th grader, and don’t know and understand everything about this levy, but I do know that it will have a huge impact on students’ lives.

I also know that I do not have an impact on the final decision, but I hope that by sharing my thoughts and feelings it can help you to see that this levy could be very disappointing to our student body. I have talked to some of my peers about this, and all of them are feeling very angry and disappointed at what will happen if the levy doesn’t pass. I am really encouraging you to vote Yes for our schools on the ballot in May.

I hope you take what I have said into consideration, and realize how big this decision can affect students like me in our community. Thank you for reading.
