BG man arrested for OVI after allegedly running stop sign, hitting car and fleeing the scene

A Bowling Green man was arrested Tuesday (March 4) after he allegedly struck a car and fled from the scene.

Justin Faykosh, 32, who has two previous OVI convictions and a license suspension, was arrested for OVI, hit-skip, failure to comply with traffic control devices, failure to reinstate his license, and failure to register expired tags. Faykosh’s operator’s license was suspended and he was taken to Wood County Jail.

Bowling Green Police were called to North Mercer Road near Stadium Drive around 5 p.m., after a vehicle was struck by a driver who left the scene. A witness was able to give police a vehicle description and license plate number for the fleeing vehicle.

Police found Faykosh at his home, outside with his 2000 Lincoln. The vehicle had heavy front-end damage, consistent with the crash description.

Faykosh allegedly said he had hit a curb. Police told him a witness had identified his vehicle as leaving the scene of an accident. Faykosh then reportedly told police he had run a stop sign and struck a car. He told police he left the scene because he was afraid.

Faykosh also allegedly denied drinking alcohol, though police noted that Faykosh had slurred speech, glassy eyes, and an odor of alcohol. He reportedly refused a breath test.

However, based on his prior OVI convictions on 2/24/2023 and 8/22/2019, license suspension on 9/14/2022, and prior refusal of an OVI test, police secured a warrant and took Faykosh to Wood County Hospital for a blood test.
