House GOP blocks Congress’ ability to contest Trump tariffs

Fact: Trump has declared an economic emergency.

Fact: Congress has the power to cancel that emergency.

Congress can vote and declare the emergency over. Republicans have the power to stop Trump’s tariffs that are hurting the country every day. Check out the stock market and your grocery store since Trump started the Tariff Wars.

Democrats were going to challenge Trump by asking for a vote on ending Trump’s declared economic emergency. Under the National Emergencies Act the Democrats wanted to vote, to go on the record, trying to stop Trump’s declaration of an emergency.

Then Trump could no longer destroy the economy as he has been doing by taking away his tariff power.

However, Republicans quietly ceded power to Trump by preventing a vote in Congress.

The National Emergencies Act says that a vote must be taken within fifteen days of a resolution.

Republican leaders slipped language into a procedural measure that would prevent any resolution to end the tariffs from receiving any vote this year.

To avoid the requirement in the law requiring a vote the Republicans declared that between now and the end of this Congress is just one long day.

It stated that  ….  “each day for the remainder of the first session of the 119th Congress shall not constitute a calendar day for purposes of Section 202 of the National  Emergencies Act.”

So the Republicans will never have to vote and be held responsible for Trump’s Tariff War actions.
