League of Women Voters awards scholarships, installs new officers at annual meeting

From  BOWLING GREEN LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

The League of Women Voters of Bowling Green held its 73rd Annual Meeting on June 7, at the Wood County Committee on Aging Senior Center.

Karen Wood of the Scholarship Committee announced the awarding of two $2,000 scholarships to local students. This year, the committee received 15 applications from high school seniors at Bowling Green, Eastwood, Elmwood, and Otsego High Schools. Shelby Janes of Bowling Green High School and Eric Sander of Eastwood High School were selected as recipients. Shelby thanked the League for the opportunity and shared her plans to attend Capital University. Eric was unable to attend due to a prior commitment.

President Lee McLaird presented the Past Presidents Award to Deborah Dalke in recognition of her tireless efforts and dedication to the Citizens Not Politicians campaign. While the measure did not pass statewide, it received majority support among voters in Bowling Green.

During the business portion of the meeting, approximately 36 voting members constituted a quorum and approved the proposed budget and bylaw changes. Members also re-adopted the programs and policies for the 2025–2026 year and elected new officers and board directors. The newly elected leadership includes:

  • President: Sharlyn Katzner
  • Program Co-Vice President: Ellen Scholl
  • Membership Vice President: Erin Hachtel
  • Communications Vice President: Tricia Petteys
  • Secretary: Robin Cagle
  • Directors: Vassiliki Leontis and Karen Wood
