From PEMBERVILLE FREEDOM AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Pemberville Freedom Area Historical Society will present the Kevin Prater Bluegrass Band as part of its “Live! In The House Concert Series.” The event will take place on Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., at the Pemberville Opera House, 115 Main St. Tickets are $15 and are available at Beeker’s General Store, at the door, or by contacting Carol at 419-287-4848 or www.pembervilleoperahouse.org.

From the mountains of eastern Kentucky, the Kevin Prater Band delivers their “coal-fired pure Kentucky bluegrass” with additions of classic country, grassed up vintage rock, original songs, and emotion-filled bluegrass gospel music. The Kevin Prater brand has been recognized and celebrated for its stellar harmonies and a cappella singing.

With thousands of songs in its catalog, including many original tunes, the band never uses a set list. The members never know what they will play before going on stage.

In 2026, Kevin Prater celebrates the 46th year of his musical journey that began at age 7. Prater’s vocal and musical talents have taken him to 24 countries and 49 states. Currently in his 17th year leading the Kevin Prater Band, the band has experienced consistent growth of fans and friends throughout the U.S.A. and Canada, playing hundreds of shows yearly. Fans tend to appreciate the band’s traditional bluegrass influence expressed through the leadership of Prater.

Every member of the Kevin Prater Band plays multiple instruments and contributes to the band vocally. Prater has mastered the mandolin but can be found playing any instrument. On fiddle, from Reader, West Virginia, is Mallory Hindman. Hindman also sings lead and harmony vocals. Dalton Smith of Alderson, West Virginia, fills the guitar position but willingly plays anything Prater hands him to play. Codie Allen of Campbellsville, Kentucky, is on banjo and harmony vocals. Allen is also a songwriter. Larry Cadle of Galion, Ohio, rounds out the lineup as a vocalist and musician.
