Scammers pose as Better Business Bureau in fraudulent emails

From BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU

The Better Business Bureau wants to alert everyone about a recent scam of its accredited businesses recently received. There is an imposter scam email attempting to impersonate the BBB. The email states that the recipient has received a complaint. However, there are a few faults within the email and ways to detect that it is not legitimate.

First, the scammers incorrectly identified the company as non-accredited, even though they are an accredited business. Second, when hovering the mouse over the “Respond to this Complaint” button to preview the link – be sure to avoid clicking on it – it shows a random link that is not associated with the BBB. This page leads to a scam website, not the BBB website. Last, the email address that the message comes from is not a BBB email.

To verify if the complaint is legitimate or not, the above steps may help. People can also log into their business portal separately to verify if they’ve received a complaint through the complaint hub, or call the BBB to check at 419-578-6000.
