Slippery Elm Trail paving to begin

Slippery Elm Trail

From WOOD COUNTY PARK DISTRICT

The Wood County Park District today (June 16) announced an update on the project to resurface the Slippery Elm Trail.

On Thursday, June 18, and Friday, June 19, Gerken Paving will mill butt-joints at all road intersections and at all connecting trails such as the Black Swamp Preserve trail and the Kenwood trail.  This will entail grinding the pavement across the width of the trail or connecting trail to a depth of 1.5 to 2 inches, 3 to 4 feet wide.  While the trail will remain open, extreme caution is advised for all trail users due to the abrupt changes in pavement height at each location.

On Monday, June 22, paving will begin at Sand Ridge Road in Bowling Green. It is anticipated that one mile of paving will occur each day.  Trail sections that are actively being paved will be closed and will remain closed for at least 24 hours.  Gerken Paving will maintain road traffic at each intersection and will maintain trail closures as paving progresses south.  Please respect the trail closures for the safety of all and to avoid damaging the fresh pavement before it can cure.
