Matthew R. Christy, 38, of Holgate, Ohio, passed away on July 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, friends and family.
Born on February 19, 1988, Matthew and his twin brother Mike grew up in the rural town of Hamler, Ohio. Matthew was a long time employee of HPJ Industries where he repaired and recycled plastic packaging. On June 30, 2018, he married his best friend, Alisha Jasper, who survives him.
He was a devoted member of Dayspring Church, where he loved being a greeter, joyfully welcoming all who stepped through the front door. His faith played a pivotal role in his relationships, his marriage and fatherhood, guiding him in all of his daily decisions.
Matthew devoted many years to providing for his family and helping his in-laws with projects around the farm. He was a spectacular father who found great joy in encouraging and bragging about his wife and daughter. He enjoyed singing, acting, watching musicals, reading adventure novels and comics and playing games. Matt’s jovial spirit and wonderful sense of humor could brighten anyone’s day.
Above all else, Matt genuinely loved people. He was always the first to lend a helping hand — not only to family and friends but coworkers and strangers as well. He would go out of his way to make sure others were always taken care of, including providing essential help at a food pantry in his community. Matt’s greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family, especially his daughter Georgia. He was a big kid at heart and loved playing with her and his niece and nephews.
When Matt wasn’t working or serving others, he found delight in sharing silly videos and laughing at goofy memes he found online. Most importantly, he was a genuine friend that treasured time with his dear pals who brought him great happiness.
Along with his cherished wife Alisha Christy, he is survived by his treasured daughter Georgia Christy, twin brother Mike Christy, sister Rachelle (Josh) Riedy, parents Bob and Cindy Christy, father-in-law JD Jasper, brother-in-law Levi (Rachael) Jasper and nieces and nephews Liam, Logan, Phillip, Noah, Lilly, Elijah and Luke.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Leann Jasper.
A Celebration of Matt’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 11am in the Family Life Center at Dayspring Church in Bowling Green, Ohio. The service is open to the public and all who loved Matthew are welcome to attend and honor his life and support his wife and daughter.
