One person was found deceased in an apartment fire in Perrysburg Wednesday evening.
At approximately 10:55 p.m., the Perrysburg Fire Division was dispatched to the 300 block of Three Meadows Court following reports of a fire in an apartment building.
Fire crews arrived to find a working fire in a second-floor apartment of a 30-unit apartment building. During firefighting operations, firefighters located and removed one occupant from the affected apartment. Despite lifesaving efforts, the occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As a precaution, all residents of the apartment building were temporarily evacuated while firefighters extinguished the fire and investigators conducted their work.
The deceased has been turned over to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, which will determine the cause and manner of death. The coroner’s office will also release the victim’s identity following notification of next of kin.
The Perrysburg Fire Division, in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, is investigating the cause of the fire. The investigation remains ongoing.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the Perrysburg Township Fire Department, Rossford Fire Department, Northwood Fire Department, Perrysburg Police Division, Perrysburg Township Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. All units cleared the scene at approximately 3 a.m.
