The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County will host the 8th annual AfterBurn from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the Wood County Fairgrounds’ Junior Fair Building.
The agency’s fall fundraising event is a family-friendly event that includes a Trunk or Treat Community Resource Fair, kid-friendly games and activities, a chili cook-off, recovery celebration and raffle prizes.
New this year is a craft market, which includes homemade crafts and art, created and donated by community members who believe in hope and healing.
Tickets for the annual hog raffle are available until Oct.2. Two winners will each receive half a hog. Tickets can be purchased at https://namiwoodcounty.org/afterburn.
AfterBurn is free for individuals to attend; there are additional purchases that can be made during the event. All proceeds from the event go toward free programming offered to individuals affected by mental illness in Wood County.
Pre-registration is encouraged; visit https://namiwoodcounty.org/afterburn/. The first 50 people who pre-register will receive a free raffle ticket.
AfterBurn is held in advance of Mental Illness Awareness Week, Oct. 4-11. NAMI Wood County joins other NAMI affiliates across the country in raising awareness of mental illness, fighting discrimination and providing support. The organization focuses on discussing mental health conditions throughout the year, but highlights the topic during Mental Illness Awareness Week.
