The band’s celebrated rhythm section and brass sound expand alongside the Toledo Symphony for an evening built on groove, energy, and the thrill of large-scale live collaboration.
For more than five decades, Tower of Power has defined a tight, unmistakable blend of soul, funk, rhythm and blues, and precision horn playing. Tower of Power’s influence rests not only on recognizable songs but on a particular approach to ensemble playing: clipped attacks, layered rhythms, and horn writing that functions as both melody and percussion.
Symphonic forces broaden that palette while preserving the rhythmic precision at the center of the band’s identity.
Expect the Oakland band’s unmistakable punch in favorites such as “What Is Hip?,” “You’re Still a Young Man,” “So Very Hard to Go,” and “Don’t Change Horses (in the Middle of a Stream).” Tower of Power helped define horn-driven funk: its brass section does not merely add accents, but locks into
the rhythm section with the precision and force of a single instrument.
With the Toledo Symphony in the mix, familiar grooves gain cinematic sweep without losing their bite.
This is a rare chance to hear an iconic band’s music with symphonic depth—more color in the arrangements, more power in the climaxes, and the live energy that made Tower of Power a lasting influence.
