Measles update: No new confirmed cases since initial case reported to Wood County Health Department

Wood County Health Department continues to monitor and provide guidance to the community following the confirmed measles case reported on Sept. 29. As of this morning (Oct. 5), there remains one confirmed case of measles in Wood County, and no additional cases have been identified.

Health department staff and volunteers continue to work to reach people who may have been exposed, answer questions and review information as it comes in.

People are protected against measles if they were born before 1957, have documentation of two doses of MMR vaccine, or have had measles diagnosed by a healthcare provider. People who are protected have a low risk of becoming sick. Those who were at one of the exposure locations should continue to follow health department guidance and monitor for symptoms during the recommended monitoring period.

Exposure locations and times include:

• Bowling Green State University — Overman Hall and/or Physical Sciences Building: Sept. 23, 9 a.m.–6:30 p.m.

• Pagliai’s Restaurant, 945 S. Main St., Bowling Green: Sept. 23, 5–9 p.m.

• Wood County Hospital Emergency Department: Sept. 24, 8:30 p.m.–Sept. 25, 1:30 a.m.

• Wood County Hospital Emergency Department: Sept. 25, 6:30 a.m.–2:15 p.m.

• Falcon Health Center: Sept. 28, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Anyone who believes they may have been exposed is encouraged to complete the Measles Close Contact Investigation Form at WoodCountyHealth.org. Once information is submitted, health department staff will review it and contact the individual if additional action is needed.
