‘Adjusting to Vision Loss’ peer group to meet at BG Senior Center

Wood County Senior Center

From SIGHT CENTER OF NORTHWEST OHIO

For older adults in Wood County, losing vision can mean more than losing sight. It can mean losing connection. Because of a grant from The Roach Family Foundation, the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio will be launching an Adjusting to Vision Loss Peer Group at the Bowling Green Senior Center on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m., offering older adults a lifeline of understanding, friendship, and hope.

Vision loss affects not only how a person sees the world, but how they experience it. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vision loss is closely linked to loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Through this peer group, participants can discover they are not alone – that there are others walking the same path, sharing the same frustrations, and celebrating the same small victories.

“Many older adults feel isolated or frustrated about their changing vision,” said Tim Tegge, the Sight Center executive director. “But a group like this can help them open up, connect, and rediscover purpose. These meetings can become a lifeline – a place where hope is restored.”

The Adjusting to Vision Loss monthly series will feature guest speakers, assistive technology demonstrations, and open discussions on living with vision loss. Each session will focus on a different topic and will include practical support, emotional encouragement, and empowerment – helping participants move from fear and frustration toward confidence and connection.

Meetings will be held the second Thursday of each month from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Bowling Green Senior Center, 140 S Grove St.

There is no cost to attend. However, registration is required. Family members are welcome. To register, call the Wood County Committee on Aging at 419-353-5661.
