Conneaut Elementary and Kenwood Elementary received threatening phone calls this morning, Nov. 3. The Bowling Green Police Division was immediately notified and responded to both schools to conduct an investigation.
As a precautionary safety measure, students and staff at both schools were evacuated while BGPD conducted safety sweeps of the buildings. Law enforcement has since given the all-clear, and students and staff have safely returned to their buildings. Classes are resuming as normal.
Authorities believe the calls were part of a swatting incident – a false report intended to trigger an emergency response. However, the threats were taken seriously and investigated by law enforcement. Bowling Green City Schools is also aware that other school districts across Ohio recently received similar calls.
The safety of students and staff remains the highest priority. School administrators and local enforcement worked closely together to ensure all appropriate safety protocols were followed.
Bowling Green City Schools appreciates the swift response and professionalism of the BGPD, as well as the cooperation of students and staff throughout this situation. The district also thanks families for their patience and understanding as it took the necessary precautions to help ensure everyone’s safety.
