From WOOD COUNTY DISTRICT PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Wood County District Public Library is proud to host Dr. Kristie A. Foell, faculty fellow for BGSU’s Institute for the Study of Culture and Society. Foell will give a presentation titled “Immigration in Film: What Can the U.S. Learn from the German Experience?” on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
Foell is an associate professor for the International Studies Program at BGSU. Her recent scholarship focus on German cinema is informed by years of research abroad and teaching in the World Languages and Cultures department.
From BGSU: “This project explores how migration and refugee experiences are represented in German and Austrian films, using these portrayals as a lens to better understand contemporary debates in the United States. Through public film screenings and discussions, community members will engage with themes of labor migration, displacement, and identity. By comparing the German and U.S. contexts, the project highlights shared dynamics as well as cultural and political differences shaping immigration discourse.”
The program will take place in the library’s second floor programming room.
The event is free and open to the public and no registration is required. For questions, contact Information Services at 419-352-5050 or email woodref@wcdpl.org
