Julia M. Charlton (née Bomia, formerly Gillen) passed away on November 4, 2026. Julia was born on August 5, 1935, in Monroe, Michigan, to Fred and Alice Bomia. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1953.
Throughout her life, Julia worked at RCA, JCPenney, and Abbott Co. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in North Baltimore, Ohio, and a lifetime member of the DAV in Findlay, Ohio.
Julia had a love for sewing and could often be found mending or altering clothing for others. Whether it was a simple repair or transforming an ordinary sweatshirt into a jacket, she enjoyed putting her sewing skills to good use. She also loved to dance, especially square dancing, and loved to listen to classic country music.
Family was an important part of Julia’s life, and she rarely missed an opportunity to gather with loved ones. Whether it was a birthday, wedding, holiday, or any other family celebration, she enjoyed being there and spending time with her family. She also had quite the sweet tooth and was never one to turn down a tasty treat, especially if it was something lemon!
Julia is survived by her daughters, Jean Smith and Jolynn August, both of North Baltimore, Ohio, and her son, Rodney Gillen of Bowling Green, Ohio. She was also a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Alice Bomia, and her brothers, Robert Bomia of North Baltimore, Ohio; Ronald Boynton of Concordia, Missouri; and Fred Bomia of Lost Nations, Iowa.
