From CITY OF BOWLING GREEN
The Bowling Green Human Relations Commission is seeking nominations for two awards recognizing individuals, organizations, and businesses that make a positive difference in the Bowling Green community. Nominations for the Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Peace Award and the Honor Roll Award are being accepted through Nov. 30.
While both awards celebrate efforts to strengthen human relations and foster a more welcoming and respectful community, each recognizes a distinct type of contribution.
The Honor Roll Award recognizes local individuals, businesses, and organizations that have made significant contributions to improving human relations within Bowling Green. Honorees demonstrate a commitment to promoting respect for diversity, fostering understanding, and strengthening community relationships through education, advocacy, and meaningful action.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Peace Award honors individuals or organizations that embody King’s legacy by actively promoting justice, peace, and respect within the Bowling Green community. The award recognizes those whose actions reflect a commitment to serving others, advancing equality, and making a positive difference in the lives of those around them.
The Drum Major for Peace Award draws its inspiration from King’s Drum Major Instinct sermon, delivered on Feb. 4, 1968. In the sermon, King emphasized that true greatness is found not in personal recognition or achievement, but in a willingness to serve others with love and compassion. He expressed his hope that he would be remembered as someone who dedicated his life to serving humanity.

Through these awards, the HRC celebrates those who put these values into action and encourages the community to recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions might otherwise go unnoticed.
Community members are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals, businesses, or organizations whose efforts reflect the spirit and purpose of either award. All nominations must be submitted online by Nov. 30.
