A woman was arrested Sunday for shoplifting from the Bowling Green WalMart after she reportedly ran into a stop sign in the store parking lot.
When Bowling Green police officers arrived on the scene around 12:54 p.m., they found one woman lying on the ground by the vehicle, another standing by the car, and a passenger reportedly hiding in a nearby store’s restroom.
Kortnee Lee Vekaryasz, 26, of Mount Cory, was charged with theft after she admitted to trying to steal $193.56 in clothing from the WalMart.
Ruth Ann Fugitt, 55, of Findlay, who was found lying by the vehicle, said she believed her leg was broken in the crash. Vekaryasz told police her knees hurt from hitting the dashboard. An ambulance transported both women to the hospital.
Chad Hughes, 42, of Findlay, reportedly fled on foot after the crash. He was found by police in the restroom at Home Depot.
Vekaryasz reportedly admitted to police that she had tried to steal clothing from the store. Police asked why she hit the stop sign concrete pole, and Vekaryasz reportedly told them that Fugitt and Hughes had been yelling at her to “get the **** out of here.”
Vekaryasz was allegedly seen by the WalMart assistant manager as she tried to conceal clothing items when she walked past the checkouts. The assistant manager confronted the woman at the store exit, and she reportedly handed him the clothing.
Also in the vehicle was a small dog that jumped out and ran away. The dog, owned by Fugitt, is a gray and white yorkie-chihuaha female mix with no collar.
No charges were issued for Fugitt or Hughes, though Fugitt does have warrants out for her in Hancock County and from Findlay Police Department.
