The Irish musical group Toraigh will be performing at the BG Exchange Club’s weekly meeting at noon on Tuesday, March 17, at the Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Toraigh (pronounced “Tory”) is an Irish Gaelic word that means “seek” or “search.” Toraigh represents the search for great times by bringing people together with lively, toe-tapping, and heart-warming traditional music and dancing of Ireland and Scotland.
The band consists of Mary Dennis (vocals, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin), Bob Midden (antique wooden Irish flute and bamboo flutes, the uilleann pipes, tin whistles and bass guitar) and Kathy Moss (simple system wooden flute) from Bowling Green, Chuck Boyer (guitar) from Toledo, and Marty Brogan (various percussion instruments) from Perrysburg.
Their repertoire draws on much of the dance music, airs and ballads of the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century traditions of Ireland and Scotland and other Gaelic lands.
Toraigh performs at festivals and celebrations, pubs and coffee houses, art museums, weddings and indeed, anywhere traditional Irish music is appreciated and enjoyed. Some of the venues at which Toraigh has played include the Toledo Museum of Art, the Blarney Pub and Mickey Finn’s Pub in Toledo, the Black Swamp Arts Festival, Bowling Green City Park Concert Series, Bowling Green State University Kobacker Hall with the BGSU Concert Band in Bowling Green, and other events throughout Ohio.
The Exchange Club meets at noon on Tuesdays at Stone Ridge Golf Club. The public is invited – no reservation necessary. For more information, please call Jenny Swope at 419-806-4202.
