Rape charges that were dismissed in April have been refiled against a Bowling Green teenager.
According to Wood County Juvenile Court Executive Director Bridget Ansberg, the teen has been recharged with rape, plus sexual battery, gross sexual imposition, offense involving underage persons and underage consumption or possession.
The rape charge was dismissed without prejudice, which allowed the state to refile the complaint.
A trial is scheduled for July 21.
The teenager was arrested following a party on Nov. 1, 2019, held at the home of another student. The accused was a 17-year-old Bowling Green High School student at the time of his arrest on Jan. 17. He is now 18.
Multiple BGHS students attended the party on West Reed Avenue, where alcohol and marijuana were reportedly made available by an adult, Summer Woodman, who has been charged. After the party, the allegation of a sexual assault was reported.
Bowling Green police interviewed those who attended the party and used search warrants to view multiple Snapchat accounts that included videos, photos and chats, before filing the rape charges.
The alleged victim was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana and was unable to give consent, according to the records.
Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson said this morning that the initial charge was dismissed due to the difficulties caused by the pandemic shut downs. The charge was dismissed without prejudice, so it could be refiled once the state’s stay-at-home orders were lifted.
