A trucking business north of Bowling Green was destroyed by fire this morning.

Middleton Township Fire Chief Steve Asmus was on the scene late this morning with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, surveying the damage and looking for the origin of the fire.

“It’s totalled,” Asmus said. “The building was fully involved when we got here.”

Several commercial trucks at the business for repairs were also destroyed, he said.

The blaze was reported around 1:45 a.m. by a neighbor across the road from TIG Fleet Service, at 18487 Ohio 25.

Bowling Green Fire Division was the first to arrive at the scene with its fire engine, aerial truck and 13 firefighters. The building was already fully engulfed, Bowling Green Fire Chief Bill Moorman said.

“There’s not a lot left,” Moorman said, predicting it could take days for the cause to be determined. “It’s a big mess.”

Others responding to the blaze, in addition to Middleton Township and BGFD, were Perryburg’s aerial truck, Perrysburg Township hazardous materials unit, Center Township and Troy Township fire departments.

Wood County Emergency Management Agency was also on the scene to try to prevent the diesel fuel and engine oil flowing out of the building from getting into the storm drains, which lead to the Maumee River.

EMA Director Jeff Klein said hazmat crews were able to put tarp over drains, with sand on the top, to keep the fuel from entering the sewers. A clean up crew was also hired. Most of the hazardous materials were contained before they could have much environmental impact, Klein said.

No firefighters were injured in the blaze, and no one was at the business, Asmus said.
