The Wood County Coroner is working to identify a person killed in a house fire this morning north of Bowling Green.
“We haven’t been able to confirm who he is,” Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said as of 11 a.m.
The fire at the southwest corner of Brim and Hannah roads was called in around 4:30 this morning by someone driving by the scene. By time the first fire department arrived, flames were shooting through the roof, Wasylyshyn said.
The state fire marshal is investigating the scene.
The one-story house is a “total loss,” according to Middleton Township Fire Chief Steve Asmus. No hydrants were available close to the scene, so fire tankers from neighboring departments helped haul water to the scene. Bowling Green, Washington Township, Center Township and Troy Township assisted Middleton Township, Asmus said.
Washington Township Fire Chief Bill Gase estimated 16,000 to 18,000 gallons were used to extinguish the blaze. The temperatures were in the mid teens, he said.
