The number of new COVID-19 cases at Bowling Green State University continues to edge upwards.
The current dashboard reports 37 new cases. That’s up from 34 last week, and up from 24 cases the week before. Of the 37 new cases, 35 were students, 60 percent of whom lived off-campus, one was faculty and one was staff. BGSU has reported 459 cases since Jan.11. Nine students who have tested positive are in isolation in campus housing and 11 students who were exposed are in quarantine in residence halls.
These numbers come out just as BGSU had to cancel a clinic for students because of the concerns about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The one-dose vaccine was seen as key to getting students vaccinated before they left campus for the summer.
BGSI conducted 725 tests symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals, in the most recent period, and diagnosed 30 positive cases, a 4.1 percent positivity rate. The positivity rate for Ohio is 4.6 percent.
Since the beginning of the year, BGSU has conducted 16,732 tests symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals, and detected 467 cases, a 2.8 percent positivity rate.
