Actors Collaborative Toledo (ACT) and The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will present the area premiere of “Red Speedo” by Lucas Hnath.
“Red Speedo” will be performed Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29 at 8 p.m. with a Sunday matine June 30 at 2:30 p.m. on the Toledo Rep’s Tenth Street stage (16 Tenth St., Toledo) located the corner of Washington and Tenth Streets in Downtown Toledo. Tickets can be purchased at www.toledorep.org.
(There is ample free parking in both of the Rep’s parking lots: one located adjacent to the theatre and the other directly across the street from theater.)
The play is directed by Joe Capucini and features Tanner DuVall in the central role of would-be Olympic swimmer Ray. Ryan Albrecht, Kat McFadden, and Jim Pinkelman round out the cast.
THE STORY: Ray’s swum his way to the eve of the Olympic trials. If he makes the team, he’ll get as deal with Speedo. If he gets the deal with Speedo, he’ll never need a real job. So when someone’s stash of performance-enhancing drugs is found in the locker room fridge, threatening the entire teams’ Olympic fate, Ray has to crush the rumors or risk losing everything. A sharp and stylish play about swimming, survival of the fittest, and the American dream of a level playing field—or of leveling the playing field yourself.
Red Speedo is a fast paced drama where egos, careers, and hidden agendas collide to create a cannonball splash. This taut and intense play explores the thin line between the truth and a lie and what we are willing to do to succeed.
