The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce is always honored to organize the Annual Bowling Green Holiday Parade, a beloved tradition for 69 years that brings the community together to celebrate the season. Behind the scenes, a dedicated project team works for months to carefully plan every detail, ensuring that we meet the needs of safety, unit placement when a unit has special request like no loud units before or after, extra-large units on Main St, to explain a few.
All parade registrations are submitted online and entered into a spreadsheet, which helps us calculate the necessary time and logistics to ensure that all units can be accommodated, with Santa needing to enter the Four Corners area before the end of the broadcast at noon. We consider several factors, including the length of each unit, the number of people walking, and any performances.
This year, the response to the parade was truly overwhelming, particularly from the bands. We are thrilled to announce that we have 11 bands marching in the parade, including 425 Bowling Green State University band members.
In total, we have 90 units registered, including 11 bands, 19 floats, 11 performing groups and vehicles. Over 2000 people will be on foot the distance of the parade.
The deadline to register for the parade was set for November 1, or until we reached capacity. This year, we reached that capacity early, on October 17, and we promptly shared this information on our social media platforms to keep everyone informed. Due to the large number of participants, the bands were asked to march through rather than stopping to perform to accommodate additional participants. All remaining units were given the option to still be in the parade, but would come after Santa so he could make it through the Four Corners before the broadcast ended. Units were all given precedence in order of when their online registration was received.
We would like to thank everyone who registered and participated, and we look forward to another spectacular parade that captures the spirit of the season for our entire community.
