BGSU has tapped Dr. Ravi Krovi, provost and senior vice president at Weber State University in Utah, to fill the same post here.

Krovi had been provost at Weber since 2020. From 1999-2020, he was on the faculty at University of Akron, including serving as dean of the College of Business Administration. While there, according to the BGSU statement, he secured $32 million in private philanthropy.

In the announcement to the BGSU community about his hiring, President Rodney Rogers stated: “As we look to leverage our momentum and differentiate the Bowling Green experience, Dr. Krovi brings extensive knowledge of student success and access to public higher education, guided by a philosophy of meeting students where they are. Dr. Krovi is uniquely positioned to elevate our academic offerings to meet the evolving needs of our students and state, with a deep understanding of the landscape of public higher education in Ohio.”

Krovi’s educational background spans engineering and business. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, from University of Baroda, India in 1986; his master’s in mathematical sciences with dual tracks in computer science and statistics from the University of Memphis in 1988; and his doctorate in management information systems and decision sciences with a minor in artificial intelligence and cognitive science, also from Memphis in 1993.

He arrives as BGSU is teeing up a new collaborative bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence that draws both on its engineering and business programs.

Krovi is expected to assume his duties later this spring.

Dr. Glenn Davis has been serving as interim in the post since Dr. Joe Whitehead left the post last summer. Whitehead had held the position since January, 2019.

Rogers wrote: “Over these last six months, Dr. Davis stepped up to ensure we continued our momentum throughout the search process and has absolutely moved Bowling Green forward in his service to our students, faculty and staff.”

Davis will continue to direct the Division of Student Engagement and Success, a position he held before assuming the duties as provost.

The university conducted a nationwide search led by AGB Search. Krovi visited campus earlier this year meeting with students, faculty, and staff.

Weber State in Ogden, Utah, has a total enrollment of 30,526 including about 1,000 graduate students. Sixty percent of the undergraduate students attend part-time as do about half the graduate students.
