Ace Hardware, artist Ann Beck offering their support to The Cocoon as demand for its services increases

The Cocoon awareness display in the window of Ace Hardware in downtown Bowling Green in May 2020.

ACE Hardware, 136 S. Main Street in downtown Bowling Green, has partnered with Ann Beck and The Cocoon to support survivors.  Through this collaboration The Cocoon hope to let survivors know that there is help available and create awareness within the community.

ACE features a window display to promote aareness.  The display incorporates general information about available services as well as t-shirts from the Wood County Clothesline Project.  The Clothesline Project is a national awareness event, where t-shirts with messages from those affected by abuse are displayed in an effort to give them a voice.

ACE Hardware has been a long-time partner of The Cocoon.  Not only providing window displays and having literature available at the store, ACE has donated needed items to help keep staff and residents safe and healthy as COVID-19 unfolded.

Ann Beck, local artist, is showing her support for survivors by donating 50 percent of all earring sales throughout the month of May to The Cocoon.  Visit her websiteWordPress site or Facebook page  and browse her collection.  Orders will be delivered by mail.

These efforts come at a time when local impact of the pandemic is startling.  As the nation struggles to figure out next best steps, The Cocoon is seeing continued increases in requests for services.  March saw a 40-percent increase in requests from domestic violence survivors.  April saw a 15 percent increase over 2019.  And The Cocoon expects this trend to continue.

The Cocoon provides a range all services including emergency safe shelter, 24/7 crisis support and advocacy services.  Ways of support The Cocoon includes: Sharing its message; unrestricted financial support; volunteering; and in-kind donations.

All those have an impact on The Cocoon’s ability to serve those who need help.
