The Bowling Green High School Drama Club has engaged in a cross-continental drama production, “From One World to Another.”
Through the auspices of the Cultural Exchange Through High School Theatre, students have been collaborating with English teacher Dhia Sanogo from Burkina Faso since June writing the play.
Dhia will travel to Bowling Green and participate in post-performance talk-backs, visit with BG students, speak for classes at BGSU, and at a special program sponsored by the Wood County District Public Library on Sunday, October 29 at 2 p.m.
“From One World to Another” will be staged in the Performing Arts Center Thursday, Nov. 2, Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 with a Sunday matinee Nov. 5 at 2.
The running time is approximately one hour, with a talk-back with our special guest following. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted at the door.
The play is about Space Aliens who capture four earthlings – two from Bowling Green and two from Burkina Faso.
The aliens, wishing to conduct studies on humans, require the humans to tell stories from their cultures so they can select who is best fit for the studies. Therefore, the play centers around the telling of three stories from Burkina Faso and three stories based on songs written by Dolly Parton, and that serves to enrich the aliens’ emerging understanding of humanity.
The project is funded by grants from the BG Community Foundation and the U.S. Global Ties program, a division of the U.S. Department of State’s Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund.
The Oct. 29 program in meeting rooms A & B will include an excerpt from the play followed by a panel conversation about strategies for increasing global literacy. Dhia SANOGO, English teacher in Burkina Faso, Dr. Tim Murnen and Dr. Brigid Burke will be featured panelists.
This program is presented in partnership with WCDPL, the Bowling Green High School, and Bowling Green State University.
Refreshments will be served. All ages are welcome to participate. No registration is required. For more information, call (419) 352-8253, email woodkids@wcdpl.org, or visit wcdpl.org/events.
