Alleged shoplifting on Thanksgiving lands 2 men in jail

Two Toledo men are in Wood County jail after reportedly doing some early morning shoplifting on Thanksgiving in Bowling Green.

Brandon Wheeler, 39, and James Roberts, 32, both of Toledo, led police on a high speed chase to Toledo after they reportedly shoplifted a TV, sound bar and monitor from the WalMart in Bowling Green.

Bowling Green Police Division was notified around 3 a.m., that two men in a white pickup had taken the items from the store, Lt. Dan Mancuso said.

An officer located the vehicle and tried to stop it. However, the driver refused to stop and got on northbound Interstate 75, reaching speeds of 100 mph, Mancuso said. Bowling Green Police Division was joined by Ohio State Highway Patrol and then by Toledo Police once the chase made it to Toledo city limits.

The vehicle was stopped in Toledo, and Wheeler was charged with theft, failure to comply and a seatbelt violation. Roberts was charged with theft. Both were lodged in Wood County jail.
