WGTE Public Media is pleased to announce the premiere of a new television program “American Experience: The Vote.” This two-part series will premiere Monday, July 6 and conclude on Tuesday, July 7 at 9 p.m.

“American Experience: The Vote” tells the dramatic story of the epic and surprisingly unfamiliar, crusade waged by American women for the right to vote focusing primarily on the movement’s militant and momentous final decade.

The series charts the myriad of social, political and cultural obstacles that stood in American women’s path.

On July 6, WGTE’s FM 91 will host a day dedicated to inspiring music written by female composers in anticipation of the premiere. The day will also feature interviews and clips of poignant female voices from our local community.

Continuing the celebration on July 23, a special edition of “BackStory” will stream live on WGTE.org at 7 p.m., “Revisiting the 19th Amendment.” A live Q and A will follow featuring author and University of Toledo lecturer of women and gender studies, Dr. Chelsea Griffis, and others.

WGTE has partnered with the League of Women Voters of Bowling Green, Perrysburg Area, and Toledo-Lucas County chapters creating the Women of
Northwest Ohio spotlights.

The series airs weekly on WGTE HD and FM 91, highlighting the women who paved the way and left a legacy in northwest Ohio.
