BG Community Bands celebrate the new year & remember old friend

From BOWLING GREEN AREA COMMUNITY BANDS

The Bowling Green Area Community Bands will celebrate the new year with their concert: “Music for the New Year!…old, new, borrowed, blue, and Best of all, ‘For Lou’ on Sunday, Jan. 12  at 4 p.m. at The Bowling Green Performing Arts Center, 503 West Poe Road..

Under the direction of Thomas Headley, the bands will take you through a diverse selection of music such as Julius Fucik/Fennell’s “Florentiner Concert March,” Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in E-flat,” Michael Sweeny’s “Blue Mambo,” George & Ira Gershwin/James Barnes’ “Porgy & Bess,and more. 

Featured soloists include Kim Kucharski, Howard Williams, Samantha Preisner, Teresa Disbrow, Karen Kelly, Brian Bushong, Stephanie Decroix, Eric Hibbets, Michael Borjas, Catherine Lewis, John Kloor, Bruce Corrigan, Jon Roode, Mark Patton and Rob Snyder.

BiG Band BG will perform  “Naima” by John Coltrane, arr. Craig Skeffington andSteampunk” by Eric Morales. Featured soloists are Dan Van Vorhis on tenor Ssax and Ken Zeurker on guitar.

Dave Horger will be the special guest announcer during the event.

This concert will also be in tribute to a dear BGACB member, Lou Best, who recently passed and was a much-valued musician and percussionist. He is deeply missed. 

The concert is free to the public and the facility provides ample parking and easy access to the PAC. Doors open at 3 p.m.
