A Bowling Green man was arrested for receiving stolen property after police reportedly found a stolen firearm in his vehicle.
Police pulled over a vehicle Saturday around 1 a.m., for reportedly running a red light at Main and Wooster streets. When the officer asked the driver, Darnell Johnson, 20, if there were any weapons in the vehicle, he first responded “um” and began reaching around the driver’s seat area.
The officer reportedly told him to stop reaching around, and again asked if there was a weapon in the vehicle. Johnson allegedly told police there was an unloaded gun under his seat.
During a search of the car, police reportedly found a single bullet on the driver’s seat, and a Glock 22 .40 caliber pistol under the seat, with a loaded magazine next to it.
When dispatch ran the serial number, it reportedly came back as a stolen firearm.
Johnson reportedly told police that his father had purchased the gun from Arms List and had given it to him. Police charged Johnson with receiving stolen property and took him to Wood County Jail.
A passenger in the vehicle was cited for possession of marijuana.
