BG Parks and Recreation plans for ‘Halloweek of Fun’ activities

The City of Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department has announced its activities for “Halloweek of Fun.” There will be eight days of youth and family recreation activities to celebrate Halloween this year. All these activities are free of charge and consist of indoor and outdoor activities open to all ages. The activities scheduled for each day are as follows:

Frightful Friday Family Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt at Wintergarden Nature Preserve Friday, Oct. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. 

Bring a flashlight from home and take a walk on the wild side in Wintergarden Nature Preserve to search for fun-themed pumpkins spread out around the designated trail (approximately ¾ mile). After completing the trail, kids can pick up some sweet treats. Feel free to dress up in Halloween costumes for a little pre-Halloween atmosphere. Participants may drop in anytime between 5 and 8 p.m., with no trail departures after 8 p.m. After the event, the pumpkins will be available for display outside our Nature Center for the remainder of Halloweek of Fun.

The Spooky Saturday Mile at the BG Obstacle Course Saturday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 6 p.m.

A 1-mile non-timed obstacle course with fun, family-friendly, spooky Halloween scenery mixed in with obstacles. Go at your own pace and bypass any obstacles or mud you want to avoid. The obstacle course trail is located behind the Bowling Green Community Center, 1245 W. Newton Road. This is a free event, but participants must check in at the registration table to sign in and complete waivers before participating. Trail is open 4-6 p.m., with no trail departures after 6 p.m. In case of severe weather, the event will be rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 23, from 4-6 p.m.

Sunday Slime Time at the Bowling Green Community Center Sunday, Oct. 23, from 2-4 p.m.

Children and parents are invited to stop by the BG Community Center any time between 2-4 p.m. to make their batch of two-ingredient Halloween slime to take home. (While supplies last).

Monster Mural Monday at the Bowling Green Community Center Monday, Oct. 24,  from 4-6 p.m.

Youth and families are invited to join in creating a spooky sidewalk chalk Monster Mural outside the Bowling Green Community Center. Sidewalk chalk will be provided by Bowling Green Parks & Recreation.

Terror-ific Tuesday Cookie Creations at the Veteran’s Building Program Room Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 4-6 p.m.

Want a sweet and fun Halloween snack before candy day? Stop by the Bowling Green City Park Veterans Building between 4-6 p.m. to create a delicious Halloween creation by decorating a sugar cookie with a Halloween theme using icing, candy, and your creativity and compete for the top prize. (While supplies last)

Wicked Wednesday Halloween Crafts at the Veterans Building Program Room Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Join us for some simple and fun Halloween arts and crafts projects while we listen to Halloween songs. This event will be open from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm for drop-in crafts. This parent-child activity requires an adult guardian/parent to assist the child. (While supplies last)

Thursday Thrills & Chills at Needle Hall in City Park Thursday, Oct. 27, from 6-9 p.m. 

Stop by Needle Hall at City Park for some black and white spooky movies on-screen and recreation games available to play inside. Activities include cornhole, box hockey, giant Jenga, yard pong, Halloween-themed Minute-to-Win-It games, and more. Guests are welcome to bring snacks, drinks, blankets, and comfortable chairs. A limited number of benches will also be available to view the movie. Activities will be offered 6-9 p.m., with the films shown after dark, approximately 7:30-9 p.m.

Fantastic Friday Fun Day at Bowling Green Community Center Friday, Oct. 28, from 4-7 p.m. 

A day of fun activities and competitions at the Bowling Green Community Center, including pop-a-shot, box hockey, climbing wall, and gymnasium activities.
