BG Police arrest caretaker for alleged assault of person in his care

A hired caretaker was arrested by Bowling Green Police early Tuesday (June 9) morning for allegedly assaulting a person in his care.

Police received a call from a person living in the 900 block of South Main Street, reporting that a neighbor’s caretaker had thrown him to the ground. When police arrived, the man in care reportedly showed police a laceration on his arm and a red mark with swelling on his head.

The man told police that his caretaker, Deaire Riggs, 22, of Flint, Michigan, had struck him in the arm, grabbed him by the shirt and took him to the ground. Police noted that the man’s shirt was ripped near the neck. A neighbor also reported to police seeing Riggs throw the man to the ground.

Riggs told police he had picked the man up from work, and took him to Arby’s drive-thru, after which the man threw barbecue sauce all over in his car, then took money from his car. Riggs allegedly said he wrestled the man to the ground and took his money back.

Riggs was taken to Wood County Jail, and the man in his care was taken to Wood County Hospital to be checked out.
