BG police arrest man for domestic violence after second call to same location

Bowling Green Police arrested a man for domestic violence Saturday after repeated calls to his residence.

Jonathan Barnett, 29, of Bowling Green, was taken to Wood County Jail.

Police received a call around 11:06 p.m., for a domestic dispute in the 1000 block of North Main Street. Police found no evidence of violence or threat of violence by either party. Both had been drinking alcohol, arguing about their relationship, and both agreed to sleep in different rooms and talk about issues in the morning.

Around 11:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to the same location after dispatch received several 911 calls about another dispute.

Police found no obvious physical injuries to either party, but the woman’s nightgown was torn.

Barnett told police he was in his bed as was agreed, when the woman came in and struck him in the face. He said he tried to get away and went to the bathroom, but the woman followed him. He told police that he began to yell for help and tried to climb out the bathroom window.

Barnett told police he pushed past the woman and ran to a neighbor’s house, yelling for help.

Police did not see any injuries to Barnett’s face, but took photos of where he said the woman hit him, and of minor scrapes on his back.

The woman told police that Barnett confronted her when she tried to get a glass of water. She said Barnett followed her into the room where she was sleeping, choked her and used his forearm to pin her against a wall. Police took photos of her upper chest which was slightly red.

She told police that she did not want him charged.

Police arrested Barnett for domestic violence and transported him to the Wood County Jail.

An officer stayed with the woman to complete a family violence form with her, but she refused to write a statement.

Police spoke with the neighbors who called 911, but they said they did not observe any physical violence by either party. One neighbor said she was awoken by a loud banging on her trailer. She saw Barnett outside, yelling for her to help him.

The neighbor was distraught because she doesn’t know her neighbors that well. She told police that her phone wasn’t working, and she couldn’t contact her adult son. An officer assisted her with her phone to make sure she was able to call someone.
