BG Police arrest two women for shoplifting at Kroger

Bowling Green Police responded to Kroger on Monday around 7 p.m. for two women who had reportedly stolen items from the store in the past.

Police arrested Eveleen Popoff, 34, and Ashley Boring, 27, both of Toledo, for theft/shoplifting and possessing criminal tools. They were taken to Wood County Jail.

Police reported seeing Boring with a large purse with Kroger scan bags sticking out of it. Kroger reportedly confirmed that the scan bags were stolen.

An officer reportedly recognized Popoff from the video of someone shoplifting at the store on Feb. 20, when she allegedly stole $313.63 worth of merchandise from the store.

Popoff reportedly admitted to shoplifting items from the store on Feb. 20. She told police that she is stealing items because times are tough and she has been waiting on unemployment for the last few months. Popoff said she is a single mother with several children and the items taken are necessities. She said she had been at the Bowling Green Kroger store a couple other times as well.

The items that Popoff reportedly stole on Monday were mostly Febreze products, men’s clothing, paper towels and other items, for a total value of $368.04. That did not include the unknown number of Kroger scan bags. According to the police report, on Feb. 20, Popoff took pork back ribs and paper towels valued at $313.63.

Kroger management asked that both Popoff and Boring be banned from any Kroger stores.
