A Bowling Green woman reportedly took her life with a gun Tuesday around 11:30 p.m., as police were trying to convince her to drop the firearm.

The woman, age 35, died from the wound.

Police were called to an apartment in the 700 block of Sand Ridge Road by a man who reported his roommate had called him to say she was going to use a firearm to end her life.

The roommate told officers that he usually takes his firearms with him when he leaves the apartment, but after getting a call from his roommate, he realized he left one of his guns there.

Police knocked on the apartment door and tried to telephone the woman. The woman did not respond, but shortly after, she reportedly came out of the apartment slowly. An officer who saw her holding a handgun reportedly called to her to put the gun down. She disappeared behind a protruding part of the building, and officers heard the gunshot.

Officers immediately began rendering aid, and Bowling Green EMS was called to the scene. The EMS transported the woman to Wood County Hospital.
