Bowling Green Police responded to a suspicious incident Tuesday (12/17) shortly before midnight that turned out to be a “swatting call” – a false report intended to trigger an emergency response.
Police received a call from a man who said he lived in California, and had been on a Discord call with a Bowling Green resident, who allegedly told him she was going to shoot her parents and herself. He gave the police an address for the woman on Clough Street.
Officers went to the residence, but no one was home. The name given to police did not match the Clough Street address, but was the name of someone living on Buttonwood Avenue.
Police then went to that address, where the resident told police she has never used Discord, but that her son may have been playing video games earlier in the evening. The son told police he had been on Discord with friends earlier in the night, and did not notice anything out of the ordinary.
The police informed the residents they likely were victims of a swatting call.
