Since classes began last August, Bowling Green City School District has received more than $280,000 in donations from the community.
“That is amazing,” Superintendent Ted Haselman said last week during a board of education meeting.
In the past month, nearly $105,000 was received from individuals, families, organizations, and school groups. Haselman read off the list of the latest donors and how their contributions will help the district. Benefitting will be Kenwood Fifth Grade Camp, Jr. Bobcat Basics, overdue lunch payments, After Prom, snacks, school supplies, track and football programs, Key Club, Drama Club, scholarships, DECA International Career Development Conference, football scoreboard, laser grading of baseball and softball fields, golf clubs, and new weight room equipment.
Community members can continue donating items to the schools during the summer, to help rebuild supplies for the next school year, Bowling Green School Board President Tracy Hovest said. Following is a list of the needs:
- Kenwood Elementary could use new shoes, socks and underwear donated to Bobcat Basics Pantry for a head start for students next year.
- Crim Elementary needs little bottled waters, unisex clothing, and laundry soap for Crim families in need.
- Middle School needs Trapper Keepers for the next school year.
- School nurse needs include basic elastic waist pants and shorts for boys and girls in various sizes, plus underwear for boys and girls sizes 5-6 to 10-12.
- Food service department can use donations for negative school lunch balances, to be sent to the school central office. Assistance is available for school lunch balances, but families need to contact Tabitha Hiler-Young if they need help.
