BGHS Girls Tennis team posts 5-0 win over Archbold

The Bowling Green High School Girls Tennis team won a non-league match 5-0 against Archbold High School at Bowling Green State University on Monday (9/9).  

1st Singles: Julia Barnett defeated Jade Whitacre 6-0,6-0.

2nd Singles: Sarah Mathey defeated Irelyn Hug 6-0, 6-0.

3rd Singles: Caroline Baker defeated Autumn Brennan 6-2,6-2.

1st Doubles: Zoe Brujic/Teeda Cromwell defeated Autumn Nafzinger/Riley Stuckey 6-0,6-0.

2nd Doubles: Mimi Faulkner/Lily Rader defeated Raegan Gerken/Remi Ryan 6-3,6-4.

The win brings Bowling Green to 9-3 on the season.

Bobcat Cross Country runs well at Tiffin Carnival

BGHS Cross Country varsity teams ran to third and fifth place finishes at the 55th running of the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival

The Bowling Green girls team made a statement Saturday on its way to its 3rd place finish among 26 teams in the Division 1 race.  In this race,  strong Division 2 and 3 teams run “up” a division.   Bowling Green placed 3rd only to 4th ranked in Division 1 Perrysburg, and 5th ranked in Division 2 Woodridge.  BG finished ahead of 1st ranked in Division 3, Minster.     Their average time of 20:18 is one of the fastest average times for a Bobcat team in many years.  Leading the Bobcats on Saturday in the field of 232 runners were:

Varsity boys take fifth place

In the Boys competition, BG placed 5th in a field of 33 teams.   The Bobcats finished only behind state ranked teams:  

  • 1st – Westerville North – currently ranked 3rd in Division 1 
  • 2nd – Toledo St. Francis – currently ranked 7th in Division 1 
  • 3rd – Perrysburg – currently ranked 20th in Division 1 
  • 4th – St. Ignatius – currently ranked 25th in Division 1
  • 5th – BG  – 2 pts. behind St. Ignatius. 

BG also topped 7 NLL rivals.

Bobcat Boys Soccer blanks Liberty Center 6-0

The Bowling Green High School Boys Soccer team hosted Liberty Center in a home game Saturday (9/7) and defeated the Tigers 6-0.

Jack Hover scored two goals for the Bobcats, along with one goal each by Luca Brininger, Aden Kendrick, Adin Metzger and Jeremiah Kaba.

Anthony Wayne football tops BG, 49-19

Anthony Wayne blew the game open with a 28-point third quarter to defeat the Bobcats 49-19 Friday in BG.

The Bobcats scored in the first quarter, and then scored two more touchdowns in the fourth. Antwon Lawrence, Ja’ceous Shannon, and Jackson Shafer, each scored a rushing TD for the Bobcats.

Four turnovers hobbled the Bobcat attack.

BG now has a 1-2 record.

Bobcat Volleyball has program sweep in Thursday action

All five Bobcat volleyball teams recorded wins in games Thursday (9/5).

The high school teams played against Springfield at home. The Varsity Volleyball team won 3-0: 25-17, 25-11, 25-15. Addison Brokaw had 8 kills, 3 digs; Madison Cowan, 7 kills, 18 digs; Molly Ruthenberg,1 kill, 1 ace, 10 digs, 12 assists; and Juliana Firsdon, 3 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists, 2 assists.

The JVA team won 2-0: 25-18, 25-14. Kendall Siville, 3 kills, 2 digs; Katie Parish, 2 kills, 1 block assist; Ayva Ladler, 2 kills, 6 digs; and Colbie Lewis, 2 aces, 13 digs, 2 assists.

The JVB team won 2-0: 25-8, 25-6. Grace Hovest, 8 assists, 5 aces; Lila Nalepka, 3 kills, 1 ace; Elise- 3 kills, 10 aces; Anna, 8 digs.

In middle school action at Arbor Hills in Sylvania, the 8th grade team won 2-0: 25-13, 25-13, and the 7th grade team won 2-0: 28-26, 25-14.

BGHS Girls Tennis adds win in NLL match against Whitmer

The Bowling Green High School Girls Tennis team won 3-2 in an away league match against Whitmer High School on Thursday (9/5).

1st Singles: Julia Barnett (BG) defeated Caralin Meyer 6-0,6-0.

2nd Singles: Kendall Hammons (W) defeated Sarah Mathey 6-2, 4-6,6-0.

3rd Singles: Riley McGrath (W) defeated Caroline Baker 6-4,6-2.

1st Doubles: Zoe Brujic/Teeda Cromwell (BG) defeated Alexis Stoldt/Marissa Ibarm 6-4,6-2.

2nd Doubles: Mimi Faulkner/Lily Rader (BG) defeated Alexis Schwartz/Marlee Chappell 6-0,6-1.

The win brings Bowling Green to 8-3 on the season and 4-3 in the Northern Lakes League.

Bobcat Boys Golf wins over Fremont Ross

The Bobcat Boys Golf team improved to 2-1 in Northern Lakes League play Thursday (9/5) with a 164-179 win over Fremont Ross at Stone Ridge Golf Course.

Nathan Cavanagh led the way with a one-over 37, followed by Cam Gerken with a career-low 38, Seth Gollehon with 44, and Lukas Green rounding out the scoring with 45. Ryan Thomas and London Bernath each finished with 47. 

League play continues Tuesday (9/10) when Springfield comes to Stone Ridge for the Bobcats Senior night. Seniors Nathan Cavanagh, Seth Gollehon, Lukas Green and Ryan Thomas will be playing their final home match starting at 4:30.

All three Bowling Green High School Volleyball teams fell to Anthony Wayne on Tuesday (9/3).
The Varsity team lost 3-0: 12-25, 21-25, 19-25. For the Bobcats, Tara Hastings had 4 kills, 2 solo blocks, 2 block assists, 1 ace, 2 digs; Madison Cowan, 6 kills, 21 digs; and Sophie Shepherd,11 digs, 9 assists.

The JVA team fell 2-1: 25-23, 21-25, 18-25. Kiersten Hendricks had 5 kills, 1 block assist, 7 digs; Kaliyah Fordham, 5 kills, 2 solo blocks, 3 block assists, 1 ace, 1 dig; Ella White, 5 aces, 4 digs, 9 assists; and Colbie Lewis- 1 ace, 15 digs, 3 assists.

The JVB team lost 2-1: 14-25, 25-21, 23-25. Grace Hovest had 18 assists, 10 digs, 5 kills; Lila Nalepka, 5 kills, 11 digs; Elise Lavey, 4 klls, 4 aces; and Ellie Brown, 10 digs, 3 aces.

The Bobcats are back at home on Thursday against Springfield. The JVB and JVA games will start at 5:15 with varsity to follow.

Bowling Green edged out home team Napoleon, 3-2 on Tuesday (Sept. 3).

Hover,  Brininger, and Fox each scored for the Bobcats.

Bobcat cross country teams runners-up at Mel Brodt Invitational

BG girls placed second to reigning state champions

The Bobcats girls were the runners-up in the 29 team Mel Brodt Invitational at BGSU on Saturday 8/31.  The Bobcats topped seven NLL teams en-route to capturing 2nd place.  

Perrysburg, the 2023 State Champions, won the meet with 44 points, Bowling Green finished with 160.

BG boys edged out by Perrysburg

The BG Boys ran an impressive race on Saturday finishing only 7 points out of 1st place in the 32 team Mel Brodt Invitational at BGSU on Saturday 8/31.  

The Boys team, currently ranked 22nd in the State of Ohio Division 1 coaches poll, defeated six NLL rivals en route to the runner-up finish with a score of 90 behind Perrysburg with a score of 83.

The Bowling Green High School Girls Tennis team lost a home league match against Perrysburg High School Saturday (8/31) at Bowling Green State University. Perrysburg won 5-0.

1st Singles: P. Giammarco (P) defeated Julia Barnett (BG) 6-3,6-3.

2nd Singles: M. Watkins defeated Sarah Mathey 6-1,6-3.

3rd Singles: L. Dunn defeated Caroline Baker 6-2,6-0.

1st Doubles: A. Wittenmyer/C. Looser defeated Zoe Brujic/Teeda Cromwell  6-1,6-2.

2nd Doubles: E. Ross/A. Geffe defeated Mimi Faulkner/Lily Rader 6-3,6-2.

The loss brings Bowling Green to 6-3 on the season. and 3-3 in the Northern Lakes League.

Bobcat football wins big over Fostoria

The Bowling Green Bobcat football team late in the first quarter and then poured it on to blow  by Fostoria, 49-6, Friday night (8-30-24) at home.

Brogan Pasley put the Bobcats on the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter with a three-yard run.

Ja’ceous Shannon added two touchdowns to the offense and Jackson Shafer ran for 107-yard in five attempts including a 67-yard run  and snagged two receptions for 33 yards including a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jamison Horst. 

Grant Gillispie  combined with Colby Joseph for a  25-yard touchdown pass. Alayna Mahan drilled a 31-yard field goal to ice the game with 2:42 left.

Trenton Smith broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown in the second quarter for Fostoria’s only score.

The Bobcats are now 1-1.

Bobcat Volleyball has a great day v. Napoleon

The Bowling Green High School Volleyball teams fared well in matches against Napoleon High School at Napoleon. The three high school teams each recorded wins on Thursday (8/29).

The varsity team won 3-0: 25-17, 26-24, 25-19. Hanna Heinze- had 25 digs and 3 assists for the Bobcats, along with Sophie Shepherd,14 assists, 15 digs, 2 aces; Addison Brokaw, 8 kills, 2 block assists, 3 digs; and Madison Cowan, 15 kills, 3 block assists, 23 digs.

The JVA team won 2-1: 20-25, 25-18, 25-20 with solid play from Kiersten Hendricks, 7 kills, 1 solo block; Kaliyah Fordham, 5 kills, 3 solo blocks, 2 block assists; Ella Pasley, 6 aces, 6 digs; and Kendall Siville, 9 assists, 9 digs, 3 aces.

The JVB team also won 2-1: 25-19, 18-25, 25-18. In middle school action at Fassett Junior High School in Oregon, the eighth-grade team won 2-0: 25-8, 25-6, and the seventh-grade team fell 2-1: 15-25, 25-16, 18-25

The Bobcat boys soccer team picked up a road win Thursday (8-29) upending Whitmer 2-0.

The Bowling Green High School Volleyball teams went 5-0 in home action against Sylvania Southview on Tuesday (8/27).

The varsity team won 3-0, with scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-12.

Madison Cowan had 14 kills, 1 solo block, 1 block assist, 1 ace and 13 digs for the Bobcats. Ruby Suter had 7 kills, 1 dig; Sophie Shepherd, 4 aces, 12 assists, 4 digs; Hanna Heinze, 11 digs, 1 ace, 1 assist.

The JVA team won 2-0: 25-20, 25-19. Juliana Firsdon had 4 kills, 1 solo block, 1 dig; Ella White, 10 assists, 2 digs; and Colbie Lewis, 14 digs, 3 assists.

The JVB team also won 2-0: 25-19, 25-15. Grace Hovest had 10 assists, 5 kills, 6 digs; Isabella Walsh, 5 kills; Ellie Brown, 5 digs, 4 aces.

In Bobcat Middle School action against Glenwood (Findlay) Middle School, the BG eighth grade team won 2-1: 22-25, 25-19, 25-19. The Bobcat seventh grade team won 2-0: 25-5, 25-15

The high school teams are on the road to Napoleon on Thursday (8/29), while the middle school teams head to Fassett Junior High (Oregon).

The Girls Cross Country Team won the nine-team Norm Bray Invitational this Saturday in Fremont..  

The Bobcats took down NLL Rivals  Findlay, Fremont Ross, and  Whitmer, along with cross town rival Otsego

Leading the Bobcats with a runner up finish was Freshman Lilly Downey.  She was closely followed by teammates Kate Scarletto-Scholl (So.)  in 5th, Averie Crawford(Sr.)  in 6th, Shelby Janes (Sr.) in 7th, Natalie Neeson(Sr.) in 8th, Emarie Headley(Jr.) in 9th, Kale Smith(Fr.) in 10th, Madison Carney(Fr.) in 11th, Annie Oberlander(Sr.) in 13th and Ava Peper(Sr.) in 14th.

The Girls will compete this Saturday (8/31) at BGSU in the Mel Brodt Invitational.   Girls Race is at 9:30 a.m.

The Boys Cross Country team helped complete the sweep this weekend by also capturing first place in the 11-team Norm Bray Invitational in Fremont.  The Boys team defeated NLL rivals Findlay, Fremont Ross, and Whitmer along with St. Johns and Otsego. 

Leading the boys team with a runner up finish was Senior Erek Kendrick.  He was followed by teammates Landon Fry(Jr.)  in 4th, Sam Wiles(So.) in 6th, Liam Triggs (Sr.) in 7th, Sam Challu (Sr.)  in 9th, Quinn Rader(Jr.) in 10th, Shawn Carney(Jr.) in 15th and Adam Proulx (Fr.)  in 19th.   

The boys team will also compete in the Mel Brodt Invitational this Saturday (8/31) at BGSU.  Boys race is scheduled for 10:15am.

The cross-town rivalry between Bowling Green High School and Otsego High School ended in a clean sweep by the Bobcat Volleyball teams on Saturday (8/24) at Otsego.

The varsity team won 3-0 with scores of  25-10, 25-19, 25-13. For BG, Tara Hastings- had 7 kills, 2 solo blocks, 2 aces; Marley Camer, 5 kills, 2 digs; Ruby Suter, 6 kills, 3 digs; and Sophie Shepherd, 1 kill, 2 aces, 3 digs, 12 assists.

The JVA team won 2-0, scoring 25-13, 25-17. Katie Parish had 5 kills, 1 block assist, 1 dig; Kaliyah Fordham, 1 kill, 1 solo block, 1 block assist, 3 aces, 1 dig; and Ella White- 2 aces, 2 digs, 9 assists.

The Bobcats are back on the home court Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. against Southview.

Bobcat football falls to Otsego

Home team Otsego scored early against the BG Bobcats Friday (8/23/24) and kept rolling to a 41-7 win.

Ja’ceous Shannon led the Bobcats’ offense with 55 of its 124 yards and scoring its sole touchdown. Alex Wiseman-Esparza added the extra point.

Boys soccer tops Delta

The Bobcat boys soccer team picked up a 4-3 road victory over Delta Thursday.

Goal scorers for BG were Brininger with 2, Kendrick, 1, and Meek, 1.

The Bowling Green High School Girls Tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season with a win against Springfield High School on Thursday (8/22).

The Bobcats beat Springfield 5-0 in the Northern Lakes League match played at Bowling Green State University.

First Singles: Julia Barnett (BG) defeated  Emily Cox (S) 6-0,6-0

Second Singles: Sarah Mathey  (BG) defeated Maggie Evans (S) 6-0,6-2

Third Singles: Caroline Baker (BG) defeated Kayla Dawson (S) 6-1,6-3

First Doubles: Zoe Brujic/Teeda Cromwell (BG) defeated Grace Elrod/Audri Hinz (S) 6-1,6-4

Second Doubles: Mimi Faulkner/Lily Rader (BG) defeated Ava Martin/Neha Soni (S) 4-6, 6-1,6-0

The win also brings Bowling Green to 3-1 in the NLL.

The Bowling Green High School Varsity Volleyball team defeated Northview 3-1 in a home match Thursday (8/22).

The varsity team won 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 27-25. For the Bobcats, Madison Cowan had 17 kills, 2 solo blocks, 2 aces, 18 digs; Sophie Shepherd: 2 aces, 9 digs, 15 assists;  Marley Camera: 4 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists, 1 dig; Molly Ruthenberg: 1 kill, 1 ace, 4 digs, 13 assists; and Hanna Heinze: 2 aces, 18 digs, 2 assists.

The JVA team fell 2-1: 25-13, 24-26, 23-25. Arabella Schoenrock: 4 kills, 5 solo blocks, 1 block assist; Kaliyah Fordham: 3 kills, 5 solo blocks, 2 block assists, 5 digs; and Colbie Lewis- 4 aces, 11 digs.

With scores of 19-25, 25-19, 25-16, the JVB team won 2-1. Grace Hovest had 15 assists, 10 digs, 5 kills, 4 aces; Ayva Ladler: 5 aces, 6 digs, 3 kills; Elise Lavey:  6 kills, 2 aces; Kaylin Nicholson- 8 aces, 5 kills; and Ariah Rodriguez-Mcafee-:15 digs

The teams will travel to Otsego on Saturday with the JVB game starting at 10 a.m.

Cross country teams open season in commanding fashion

The Girls Cross Country defeated Fremont Ross Wednesday (Aug. 21) in commanding fashion at Carter Park by a score of 10 to 30.  The repeat style meet was led by the teams of Shelby Janes and Kate Scarletto-Scholl in 1st, Maddie Evans and Lilly Downey in 2nd, Natalie Neeson and Kale Smith in 3rd, Annie Oberlander & Madison Carney in 4th and Averie Crawford and Emarie Headley in 5th.  

The team opens their Invitational Season this Saturday in a 10-team meet in Fremont  at the Norm Bray Invitational.

The Boys Cross Country Team also scored a perfect 10 defeating Fremont Ross 10 to 26 at Carter Park.  

The repeat style meet saw Erek Kendrick and Sam Wiles taking 1st, Landon Fry & Sam Challu took 2nd, Liam Triggs & Shawn Carney were 3rd, and Adam Proulx and Quinn Rader were 4th.  

The Boys will also open their Invitational season this Saturday in Fremont at the Norm Bray Invitational against 10 area schools.

JVA won 2-0: 25-19, 25-21. Isabella Shepherd had 4 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs, 6 assists; Arabella Schoenrock with 2 kills, 2 solo blocks, 2 aces; and Ella Pasley- 1 kill, 2 aces, 7 digs, 2 assists.

JVB won 2-1: 16-25, 25-17, 25-14.

The middle school teams defeated Springfield. The 8th grade team won 2-0: 25-6, 25-6

The 7th grade also won 2-0: 25-5, 25-6.


Boys soccer opens season with 6-1 victory over Clay

Bowling Green boys soccer opens their season with a 6-1 home win over  Clay.

Meek scored a hat-trick plus 1 for the Bobcats with Meek and Fox also contributing goals.

Bobcat Volleyball hosts Archbold in season home opener

Bowling Green High School Volleyball hosted Archbold in the first home game of the year.

The varsity team won 3-1, scoring 26-24, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-21.

For the Bobcats:

Madison Cowan had 23 kills, 22 digs and two aces. Tara Hastings recorded six kills, two solo blocks, one block assist and seven digs. Ruby Suter had 11 kills, one dig and one block assist. Hanna Heinze had 12 digs and two assists.

The junior varsity team fell 2-1: 25-22, 19-25 and 24-26. Kiersten Hendricks recorded seven kills and two digs. Ella White had five aces, 10 assists and three digs. Arabella Schoenrock had four kills, two solo blocks, one block assist, two aces and two digs. Marin Howard had 10 digs.

The Bowling Green High School Girls Tennis team defeated Napoleon High School 5-0 in a Northern Lakes League match Thursday (8/15) at Bowling Green State University.

2nd Singles:Sarah Mathey (BG) defeated Paige Sherman(N) 6-0, 6-0

3rd Singles: Caroline Baker (BG) defeated Leia Wardinski (N) 6-0, 6-0

1st Doubles: Zoe Brujic/Teeda Cromwell (BG) defeated Brylee Bressler/Cali Bost (N) 6-1, 6-2

2nd Doubles: Mimi Faulkner/Lily Rader (BG) defeated Zoe Lulfs/Lilly Walker 6-3, 6-2
