One Bowling Green High School student was cited after a sweep was conducted by K-9 units of the school and parking lot this morning.
Dominic Gimenez, 18, was cited for underage possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Bowling Green Police Lt. Dan Mancuso.
The high school was placed on a lockdown for the scheduled sweep of the grounds.
According to a BG Police report, during an “open air sniff” in the parking lot, a K-9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics in a car. School personnel searched the vehicle and located a backpack. Inside the backpack was a bottle of Paradise Bay rum, a plastic food storage container with marijuana (5.4 grams), a digital scale, and cigar wraps (used to smoke marijuana), according to police.
Gimenez reportedly admitted the backpack was his.
“We’re just trying to keep our campus safe for the well-being of students and staff,” Superintendent Francis Scruci said.
“In an on-going attempt to do as much as possible to deter drugs and paraphernalia in our schools, we deployed K-9 unit teams through our partnership with local law enforcement,” he said in a statement.
“The teams are searching lockers, book bags and the parking lots to make certain that our schools are drug free. Students and teachers are in non-threatening lock down, which means that class is to continue as usual. Once the search internally is complete, students will be released to their next class period. We appreciate your understanding and your collaboration to help keep our school safe and healthy for students and staff.”
