Dear BG Voters,
As an incoming senior who has been actively involved in sports, clubs, and various extracurricular activities throughout my high school career, I am writing to express my heartfelt plea for the school levy to pass. The passage of this levy is not just about funding; it’s about preserving the very essence of our educational experience, the opportunities that shape our futures, and the community spirit that binds us together.
Throughout my years in high school, I have had the privilege of participating in a wide variety of activities. From the early morning cheer competitions to the friendships built during late-night rehearsals for the all-school musical, these experiences have been instrumental in shaping who I am today. They have taught me the values of teamwork, perseverance, and leadership—qualities that cannot be fully developed in a traditional classroom setting alone.
Sports have been an integral part of my life, providing me with an outlet to channel my energy, build physical fitness, and form relationships that otherwise never would have occurred. The thrill of competition and the joy of representing my school is vital to my high school identity. However, sports programs require adequate funding for equipment, facilities, coaching staff, and transportation. Without the levy, these programs will be eliminated, depriving future students of the same opportunities that have been so pivotal in my development.
Similarly, clubs, the arts, and extracurricular activities have offered me a platform to explore my interests, discover my passions, and develop skills that will serve me well beyond high school. Whether it’s the Spanish Club teaching me about different cultures and traditions, peer tutoring forcing me out of my comfort zone while helping others, or “Stucrew” teaching me about leadership and responsibility; each activity has contributed to a well-rounded education. The 2nd&7 program inspires me and other student leaders as we work with our BG second graders — kids who dream of being like the big kids playing sports and joining clubs. These programs rely on our community’s financial support too.
The impact of these activities extends beyond individual growth. They foster a sense of community and school spirit that unites students, teachers, parents, and alumni. They create a vibrant school culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging and pride. The levy is crucial in maintaining this culture by ensuring that our school can continue to offer a rich variety of programs that engage and inspire students.
Moreover, the passage of the levy is an investment in the future of our community. Strong schools attract families, boost property values, and contribute to the overall well-being of the area. By supporting the levy, we are not only enhancing the educational experience for current students but also laying the foundation for future generations to thrive.
As an incoming senior, I am acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead, both academically and in preparing for life beyond high school. The support provided by the levy is essential in ensuring that I, along with my peers, have access to the resources we need to succeed. This includes not only extracurricular activities but also academic support, technology, and safe, well-maintained facilities.
One of the proposed cuts is reducing school nurses. Having a knowledgeable and accessible nurse in every building is key to the safe environment every BG student needs and deserves.
The thought of losing these opportunities and support is heartbreaking. It is difficult to imagine a school experience devoid of the programs that have brought so much joy, growth, and learning into my life. I beg of you, think back to high school, what do you remember? Was it a club or sport, maybe after prom? Now think of what high school would have been without any of those. I urge you to consider the profound impact that these activities have on students and the community as a whole.
In conclusion, the passage of the school levy is not just a financial decision; it is a commitment to the future of our students and our community. It is about preserving the opportunities that allow students to grow, learn, and succeed. A vote for our district allows future students to enjoy the same enriching experiences that have made our high school years so memorable and transformative. Thank you for your consideration.
