For the first time in 30 years, the Bowling Green State University Alumni Concert Band is reuniting for a performance on Saturday, May 16, to celebrate music and friendship and to help raise funds for the Falcon Marching Band’s upcoming travels to the 2027 Rose Parade.

Led by Bruce Moss, Ph.D., retired professor and director of band activities, and Carol Hayward, Ph.D., retired professor and director of marching and athletic bands, the BGSU Alumni Concert Band will perform a number of musical selections as part of the free, public performance. Guest conductors will include Jon Waters, assistant teaching professor and director of marching and athletic bands, and Matthew Dockendorf, DMA, director of bands.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 16, at 3:30 p.m., at Kobacker Hall in the Moore Musical Arts Center on the BGSU campus.

During the performance, the BGSU Alumni Concert Band will also collect donations to support travel costs for the Falcon Marching Band’s performance in the 2027 Rose Parade on New Year’s Day. With support from alumni and BGSU supporters Theresa Popp Braun, Ph.D., ’80, ’85, ’16, and Ray Braun ’80, every dollar raised up to $25,000 will be matched, doubling the support for the band’s travel expenses to Pasadena, California.

As one of the nation’s largest college marching bands, the 475-member BGSU Falcon Marching Band was chosen to perform in the parade following a competitive selection process based on various criteria, including musicianship, marching ability, uniqueness, entertainment value, or special interest.

During the parade, the Falcon Marching Band will perform alongside the bands from both universities that will compete in the Rose Bowl Game. The band will also join high school, military, and other bands from around the world as it marches five and a half miles down Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevards in Pasadena as part of the parade.
