BGSU Arts to host mix of musical, flm and theatrical performances

The Ann Arbor Traveling Film Festival will be at BGSU Thursday, Jan. 29.

BGSU Arts will kick off spring semester with a mix of musical performances – from classical to jazz – along with an experimental film festival, an offbeat romantic comedy, and a showcase of undergraduate art students. The community is invited to experience the creativity of The Arts at BGSU.

Premier Events

  • Dubois Piano Festival
    • Saturday, Jan. 31, 8 p.m.
    • Bryan Recital Hall, Moore Musical Arts Center
    • Guest artist recital: Greg Anderson
      • Pianist Greg Anderson has toured throughout four continents and 24 countries to serve his mission to make classical music a powerful and relevant force in society.
  • Hansen Musical Arts Series
    • Tuesday, March 10, 8 p.m.
    • Kobacker Hall, Moore Musical Arts Center
    • Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens
      • The Silkroad Ensemble with Artistic Director Rhiannon Giddens will perform “Sanctuary: The Power of Resonance and Ritual.” This new program explores how music can help people better understand their world, find comfort, process loss and a changing environment, and rebuild community based on their own humanity.
      • The concert is free, though tickets are required.

    • A screening of award-winning films from the premiere experimental film festival in North America.
  • “Swimming in the Shallows” by Adam Bock
    • Feb. 12 – 14, 19 – 21; 8 p.m.
    • Feb. 14 – 15, 21; 2 p.m.
    • Eva Marie Saint Theatre, Wolfe Center for the Arts
    • This offbeat romantic comedy revolved around a group of close-knit friends who are all dealing with anxieties, longings, expressions of love, and emotional changes in their lives.

    • Dorothy Uber Bryan and Willard Wankelman Galleries, BGSU Fine Arts Center
    • Opening reception: Sunday, Feb 1, 2 – 4 p.m.
    • From animation to portraits to jewelry, people can find things to admire in this diverse juried selection of art by undergraduate students in the BGSU School of Art.

  • BG Philharmonia Concerto Winners’ Concert

    • The community is invited to enjoy the melodic sounds of the BG Philharmonia featuring winners of the Concerto Competition.
  • Jazz Lab Band 1 with guest Adam Birnbaum, pianist

    • The community is invited to celebrate Jazz Week with this concert presented by Jazz Lab Band 1 featuring pianist Adam Birnbaum.
