BGSU muralists brighten up future microbrewery

The summer class in mural painting at Bowling Green State University has created more than two dozen murals in Toledo. This week the students are working closer to home creating murals on the building that will be home to Arlyn’s Good Beer at Hankey Avenue in Bowling Green.

Margo Morr, an art education major, works on the west side of the Arlyn Good Beer building.

The new microbrewery owned by Eric Jones working with brewer Roger Shope is expected to open in late summer or early fall.

Kimberly Tumblin, top, and Margo Morr work on mural.

This is the fourth project the 20 students in the class taught by Gordon Ricketts with assistance from Yusuf Lateef. They include a portrait of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo on Broadway Street.

Jones said he got the idea for painting the old industrial building with murals because it is so hard to locate. Driving to the site in winter, he realized he could see if from Gorrell Street.

When he mentioned the idea of murals he was directed to Ricketts.
