The Institute for the Study of Culture and Society at Bowling Green State University will hold a free public presentation and exhibition with Dr. Sidra Lawrence focused on embracing artwork for healing and restorative justice at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at the Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center in Toledo.

An ethnomusicologist in the BGSU College of Musical Arts, Lawrence will offer a presentation titled “Aural technologies of justice: The sonics of violence, trauma and healing,” which will examine how people can use art-based practices to work through trauma. As part of her presentation, Lawrence will also delve into how survivors of traumatic situations can seek justice.

“This is a great opportunity to learn and experience how art is not just for artists and how everyone can embrace it to express themselves and connect with others,” said Dr. Valeria Grinberg Pla, director of the BGSU Institute for the Study of Culture and Society.

Established in 1996, the Institute for the Study of Culture and Society at BGSU works to build innovation in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The institute offers programming to empower the learning and greater community to better serve the public good.
