Two stranded boaters were rescued this morning (March 19) from the Maumee River.
At 11:19 a.m. the Perrysburg Fire Division was dispatched to the Maumee River in the area of Riverside Park for a stranded boat in the water with two people on board. The boat hit the bottom of the river when it became stuck and lost power.
PFD deployed their rescue boat from the Maple Street boat launch and brought the boaters to shore safely. They were not injured.
The boat owner is working with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to coordinate the recovery of the boat. The unoccupied boat can be seen in the river off the shore near Riverside Park until the owner is able to have it removed. There are no safety or environmental concerns.
The Perrysburg Fire Division would like to remind boaters and anglers to wear Coast Guard (USCG) approved life jackets any time that they are near the water.
“The Maumee River is very unpredictable, and the wind has created an outflow impacting the water level in the river,” said Fire Chief William McCullough. “The water level may change rapidly causing boats and anglers to become trapped in areas that were passable earlier in the day.”
