Charles ‘Dave’ Mears

Charles “Dave” Mears, 80, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away suddenly but peacefully in the early morning hours of April 26, 2024. He was born March 1, 1944 in Bowling Green to the late James and Mary Jane (Kidd) Mears. He married Linda (Stiles) Mears on August 31, 1974 and she survives in Bowling Green.

Dave was a lifelong member of Plain Congregational Church where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Tontogany American Legion and Tontogany Order of the Oddfellows. He was a longtime umpire in Carter Park for adult softball. His favorite games to umpire, however, were high school girls fast pitch softball. Dave was also a 50 year substitute and field trip bus driver for Bowling Green and Otsego Schools.

Dave was employed for 30 years by BGSU in their Computer Services department. He also served some of those years on BGSU’s Classified Staff Council.

Outside of work, Dave enjoyed spending time fishing and working in the vegetable garden. He believed no one should be hungry and it was important to him to share the bounty with others. He loved and shared time with his family and were deeply beloved to him.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Lin, son Jesse Mears of Huber Heights, Ohio, and daughter Diedre Mears of Gresham, Oregon and brothers D.J. Mears (Jackie) and Don Mears (Connie).

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday April 30, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Plain Congregational Church, 16011 W. Poe Rd. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Visitation will be held on Tuesday also at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home in Tontogany, Ohio.
