County drivers involved in pile-up that closed I-475

The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a six-vehicle injury crash that occurred Tuesday (5-21-24) at 3:58 p.m. on I-475 near milepost 8 in Springfield Township.

A 2020 Cadillac XTS, operated by Kevin Herman, 54, Milton Center, was traveling northbound on IR-475 when the vehicle failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead and struck a 2012 Ford Fusion, operated by Gabriella Pool, 22, Toledo. The Ford Fusion was then pushed forward into a 2015 Buick Encore, operated by Michelle Hill, 35, Toledo. The Buick Encore was then pushed forward into a 2019 Mazda CX-5 operated by Mark Rust, 48, Holland. The Mazda was then pushed forward into a 2015 Ford Edge operated by Amanda Wozniak, 37, Perrysburg.

After the initial crash a Volvo commercial vehicle operated by Gurjot Sandhu, 29, Ontario, Canada, failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead and struck the 2020 Cadillac XTS, operated by Herman. The 2020 Cadillac then continued forward and struck the Buick Encore, operated by Hill.

I-475 was closed for an extended period of time due to disabled vehicles and debris in the roadway.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Springfield Township Fire and EMS and Ohio Department of Transportation.
